Identify the GIMP brush type
GBR files can contain grayscale or color brushes; GIH files hold animated brushes with changing marks, and VBR files are parametric brushes. Find the supplied native files and keep their notes. If they are inside an outer ZIP, extract that outer ZIP before copying the brush files.
Check the GIMP version actually tested for the resource. A grayscale brush uses your foreground color, while a color brush can use its stored colors instead. Changing marks in a GIH stroke may be expected behavior rather than evidence of a damaged download.
Copy to your personal brush folder and refresh
In Preferences, check the brush-folder search paths and identify your personal, writable brush folder. Copy the supplied GBR, GIH or VBR files there, then press Refresh in the Brushes dialog. Use the personal folder rather than modifying GIMP’s system brush folder.
Folder locations depend on your system and GIMP version. Use the brush paths configured in your installation and keep the original files outside the working folder.
Find the brush and check its marks and color
Select the added brush in the Brushes dialog and paint on a visible spare layer. For a grayscale brush, choose an obvious foreground color; for a color brush, check its stored colors. If the package includes a sample, compare marks and spacing at its listed size. Keep the original file while changing working settings.
If the brush is missing or its color seems wrong
Confirm that the file is in a configured personal brush folder, that the folder is writable, and that you refreshed the Brushes dialog. Check the extension and complete download. If color differs, first identify whether the brush is grayscale or colored. Record the filename, GIMP version, system, folder used, and failed step. Sign in to report a Brushory resource problem, or contact support if its public page is unavailable.
