Identify the Illustrator brush library
Find the supplied Illustrator brush-library file and keep its version and setup notes. If the download is inside an outer ZIP, extract that ZIP as instructed. Do not select a Photoshop ABR or a preview image as though it were the Illustrator library.
An Illustrator brush library is different from a Photoshop ABR preset. Check the library’s brush type and the Illustrator version listed in its notes. The brush type determines how it applies to a path; check its stroke settings when drawing.
Open the library and add brushes to the panel
In desktop Illustrator, open Window → Brush Libraries → Other Library and select the supplied library file. Open Window → Brushes if the working Brushes panel is not visible. Drag the brushes you want from the library into that panel.
Check that the brush is in the working Brushes panel as well as the separate library window. Use the package’s Illustrator version and setup notes when checking its stroke.
Apply a brush to a path and check the stroke
On a spare document, draw or select a path and apply an imported brush from the Brushes panel. If the library includes a stroke sample, match its stroke weight and listed settings when comparing. Try a curve or corner where relevant to the brush type. Keep the original library before editing a working brush.
If a library opens but the brush is missing
Look in both the library window and the Brushes panel. If the brush is only in the library, add it to the panel before reopening the file. Check the library file, complete download, tested version, and brush type. Record the filename, Illustrator version, system, and failed step.
