Import AFBRUSHES or ABR files into Affinity

Identify the brush type in an AFBRUSHES pack or ABR file, open the matching workspace, and check the imported brushes against the package’s tested setup.

Identify the raster or vector brush pack

Save the AFBRUSHES or ABR file somewhere you can select from the device’s file browser. If the download is an outer ZIP, extract it according to the package notes and find the brush file inside. Keep the original file and the notes that identify its target Affinity version.

ABR files provide raster brushes. For AFBRUSHES, check whether the pack contains raster or vector brushes and which Affinity product and version it was tested in. The same extension does not establish that the brush belongs in every workspace or behaves identically across versions.

Import brushes in desktop Affinity Designer 2 or Photo 2

In desktop Affinity Designer 2 or Photo 2, open the Brushes panel. Choose Panel Preferences → Import Brushes, select the AFBRUSHES or ABR file, and click Open. For other Affinity versions or devices, use their own import instructions.

In Designer 2, vector brushes appear in Designer Persona and pixel brushes in Pixel Persona; imported ABR brushes have separate pixel categories. In Photo 2, check the pixel Brushes panel, and compare the package’s product and version notes with your installation before importing again.

Select a brush and check its stroke

Try an imported brush on a spare document at the size you plan to use. If the package includes a sample from that file, match its brush size, opacity, and listed settings when comparing. For a vector brush, check the stroke settings too. Keep the original package and use a working copy when experimenting.

If import fails or brushes are not visible

Check the file type, complete download, intended product and version, and raster or vector workspace. Record the filename, Affinity version, device, and whether import failed or the brush was simply missing from the panel. Sign in to report a Brushory resource problem. If the public resource page is unavailable, contact support with the resource name and failed step.

Check the file details before choosing a brush

Before deciding whether to get a resource, check its file details, the app version listed as tested, and the access methods currently enabled. For a file problem, give support the resource name; for an order problem, include the order number. Do not send sign-in codes or other private information.
